Religious Education Curriculum

As a Catholic school, St Joseph’s is a faith community centred on Jesus, in which the faith is integrated with life. We believe that faith needs to be both formed and informed through education and example. In our school, we foster an ethos of love, truth, care and forgiveness so that children experience first-hand God’s message of love, and in turn pass it on to others.

Religious Education is planned, taught, assessed, and monitored with the same rigour as other curriculum subjects. 10% of curriculum time is allocated to Religious Education. We follow the Come and See Catholic Primary Religious Education Programme for Foundation and Key Stages 1 and 2.

This programme is based on the theological foundations of the Second Vatican Council, the Catholic Catechism and the forthcoming revised RE Curriculum Directory and includes the Catholic attainment levels

The outcome of excellent Religious Education is religiously literate and engaged young people who have the knowledge, understanding and skills – appropriate to their age and capacity – to reflect spiritually, and think ethically and theologically, and who are aware of the demands of religious commitment in everyday life.
